During this morning’s meeting, the environmental foundation presented the bases of its future roadmap on the island

Eivissa, 30/07/2025 – The Board of Trustees of IbizaPreservation met this Wednesday with the president of the Consell d’Eivissa, Vicent Marí, and with the Ministers of Environment, Ignacio J. Andrés Roselló , and Territory, Mariano Juan , in an institutional meeting whose main objective was “to strengthen the ties of collaboration between both entities and update the island government team on the main lines of work of the foundation for its new Strategic Plan 2026-2030”, as explained by the environmental organization. An ambitious process in which IbizaPreservation has invited the highest island institution to participate since, in the words of the president of the entity, Philip Muelder , it will be “the guiding document that puts the foundation at the service of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations in some totally decisive years for the fulfillment of the goals established in its 2030 Agenda”.

Within the framework of the meeting, IbizaPreservation has presented its latest annual report and has shared with the president and the councilors some of the main milestones achieved by the foundation during the last fiscal year . Firstly, IbizaPreservation has highlighted the notable increase in its direct investment in environmental projects, which, in 2024, grew by almost 60% compared to the previous year, reaching 628,000 euros distributed between more than twenty active initiatives. This amount It represents around 80% of the foundation’s income, which last year amounted to more than €880,000. Among the most notable projects promoted was the launch of the regenerative agriculture program ‘Eivissa Sembra Futur , with a thousand fruit trees already planted. In the marine sector, the foundation continues to invest in research with projects such as the IbizaPreservation Blue Crime Classroom at the Universitat Jaume I in Castellón . IbizaPreservation’s educational and awareness-raising work was also highlighted, including its successful campaigns against food waste.

The President of the Consell, Vicent Marí, stressed the importance of maintaining constant dialogue and fluid collaboration with all the island’s entities and groups, emphasizing that “it is important to listen to and take them into account, especially at a time when decisions are being made that define the model of island that all Ibizans want.”

“In this sense, we must highlight the crucial role that this listening has played and will play in shaping the future of waste management on the island, in modifying the PTI (Project for the Protection of the Environment) , the PIAT (Project for the Protection of the Environment), and in laws that have emerged from this Island Council, such as the vehicle restriction ,” he added. The president also thanked the willingness of organizations like IbizaPreservation, “who have always viewed participation as proactive and positive.”

On the ground, the IbizaPreservation Board of Trustees has particularly highlighted the work of monitoring and supporting the eradication of invasive snakes, as part of the “Protegim Ses Sargantanes” program aimed at protecting the Pitiusa wall lizard. In this regard, IbizaPreservation’s Executive Director, Inma Saranova , emphasized “the foundation’s complete willingness to collaborate with local and regional governments, especially with the Balearic Government’s Species Protection Service.”

During the meeting, the role of the Ibiza Sustainability Observatory was also discussed, a key tool promoted by the foundation, which last year published its sixth annual report with more than 50 relevant indicators on territorial sustainability, demographic pressure, tourism, and natural resources . IbizaPreservation has requested that the Consell renew its institutional commitment to guarantee “the continuity of its collaboration with the observatory in the coming years, with the aim of ensuring it can continue to count on institutional support and contribute to the generation of reliable data on the island’s sustainability.”
