During the same year, the arrival of passenger vehicles by sea decreased by 6%, registering the first decline since 2017, according to the analysis by the IbizaPreservation Sustainability Observatory
Ibiza, February 24, 2026 – Ibiza recorded its highest ever number of air passengers in 2025 , with 9,128,131 people , and for the first time since 2017—excluding the years affected by COVID-19 —the number of passenger vehicles arriving by sea decreased by approximately 6% . Furthermore, maritime freight transport reached an all-time high of 3,772,688 tons .
The data, which is island-specific, comes from the Balearic Port Authority and IBESTAT and has been analyzed by the IbizaPreservation Sustainability Observatory within the framework of the Ibiza Sustainability Report 2025, currently being prepared and fully funded by the Consell Insular d’Eivissa.
In the air sector, passenger traffic grew by 0.8% in 2025 compared to 2024 and is almost four times the amount recorded in 1990. The increase was concentrated in international passenger traffic, which increased by 2.1% in 2025, while the number of domestic passengers decreased by 1% .
2,961,486 people traveled on regular maritime passenger transport, a figure virtually identical to that of the previous year and which keeps the volume unchanged at around three million annually since 2022.
“Increased traffic also necessarily leads to a larger carbon footprint and greater environmental impacts associated with transportation. In island territories, this type of growth has direct effects on the land, infrastructure, and environmental quality. Therefore, it is necessary to move towards more efficient and sustainable mobility models, adapted to our local context,” warns Elisa Langley , coordinator of the Sustainability Observatory at IbizaPreservation.
Regarding vehicle arrivals, a total of 483,127 vehicles entered the island in 2025 , a 2.6% decrease compared to 2024. Of these, 440,561 were passenger vehicles, compared to 468,485 in 2024 , representing a decline of nearly 6% and breaking the continuous growth trend recorded since 2017.
Meanwhile, vehicles linked to the transport of goods increased in 2025 and reached 42,566 units , representing approximately 8.8% of the total , a still small proportion within the set of entries.
Likewise, maritime freight transport reached 3,772,688 tons in 2025, 6.8% more than in 2024 , exceeding all previous records.
According to Langley, “the 2025 data shows a highly intensified transport system , with record figures for both passengers and freight.” The coordinator adds that “the decrease in passenger vehicles is a significant piece of data because it breaks a trend that had been maintained since 2017” and points out that “it may be related to the application of the law limiting vehicles during the peak months, although it will be necessary to observe its evolution in the coming years to verify its effects and trends. ”
The Observatory emphasizes that this context prioritizes the mandatory implementation of measures that improve transport efficiency and reduce its environmental impact . It also considers it strategic to strengthen local production and consumption , given the continued growth of high external dependence, which directly impacts the volume of goods entering the island.
In this regard, Langley points out that “reliance on external sources carries an unavoidable environmental cost.” He adds: “Promoting and strengthening local production and island industry is not just an economic issue, but a direct way to reduce environmental impact and lessen logistical pressure on the island.”
