- Ibiza & Formentera Preservation and Fundació Deixalles are promoting this circular economy initiative to encourage reuse and reduce waste generation
- ReparaLab will hold four workshops until the end of the year, on Fridays September 25, October 30, November 27 and December 18
Ibiza, September 11, 2026 — What if, instead of replacing a broken item, you could learn to repair it? That’s the idea behind ReparaLab , a new circular economy project launched by Ibiza & Formentera Preservation and Fundació Deixalles. From this month until the end of the year, the project will offer a space open to the public, providing technical advice and the necessary tools to learn how to repair everyday objects , extend their lifespan, and promote their reuse. The workshops will be held at the Fundació Deixalles facilities in the Montecristo industrial park on Fridays, September 25, October 30, November 27 , and December 18.
The cost of repairs, the difficulty in finding professional services, or the lack of access to the right tools can lead to many items that still have a useful life ending up being discarded . Therefore, ReparaLab aims to reduce these barriers and make repair a viable option for everyone once again.
Each ReparaLab session will feature two distinct areas. The first will be a repair area, open to the public from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. without prior registration. Anyone can bring an item they wish to repair, using the available tools and receiving technical advice. This area, called ReparaLab: Tot , is designed to facilitate small repairs that are often not attempted due to a lack of knowledge, resources, or appropriate tools.
Each day will also include a workshop dedicated to a specific theme , where participants can learn techniques for repairing specific objects. These workshops will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and, unlike the open repair area, will require prior registration via info@ibizapreservation.org . The first of these themed workshops will be on September 25th and will focus on clothing repair and transformation . October 30th will be dedicated to lamps , and November 27th to furniture restoration . This year’s program will conclude on December 18th with a session on computers led by Amics de la Terra , in which participants will learn how to update equipment using free software to extend its lifespan.
A boost to waste reduction
The initiative is part of the Circular Economy program of Ibiza & Formentera Preservation, through which the entity develops actions in the Pitiusas Islands to promote a more sustainable production and consumption model, and is developed in collaboration with Fundació Deixalles, an entity with a long and recognized track record focused on waste prevention, reuse and socio-labor inclusion.
“In Ibiza , 655.5 kilos of waste were generated per person in 2024, 14% more than the Balearic average, according to data analyzed by the Ibiza & Formentera Preservation Sustainability Observatory. Furthermore, the Ca na Putxa landfill could reach the end of its useful life before 2028 if we don’t drastically reduce waste production. For all these reasons, ReparaLab aims to contribute to improving waste reduction and reuse, making repair a more attractive option than discarding and replacing,” explains Jordi Salewski , coordinator of the Circular Economy program at Ibiza & Formentera Preservation .
For his part, Joan Carles Palerm from Fundació Deixalles points out that “waste prevention measures are the ones forgotten by waste policies and this is where we focus at ReparaLab, remembering that old motto: the best waste is the one that is not produced.”
The four days scheduled until the end of the year will be the starting point for ReparaLab, although Ibiza & Formentera Preservation hopes to continue the project in 2027 and further expand its program.
