New campaign with UD Ibiza
We were very excited this month to take our collaboration agreement with local football team UD Ibiza one step further, with a new joint campaign, “Sky Blue Hearts, Green Minds”. The campaign aims to encourage supporters of the club to adopt more sustainable habits in their daily lives, through short videos in which its star players offer simple tips on how to reduce single-use plastics or cut down on water and energy usage. The club is sharing the videos regularly via its Instagram stories, using the hashtag #CorazónCelesteVisiónVerde.
DJs help raise funds
As clubs and other music venues remain mostly closed, the industry has moved online through the lockdown period, with DJs all around the world streaming via digital platforms. Two Ibiza residents, Sasha and John Monkman, both very kindly offered their sets this month in support of IbizaPreservation, encouraging their followers to donate to the foundation. We are incredibly grateful to them and their teams for their support in promoting our work and raising awareness about the importance of preserving the islands.
Lockdown emissions data
Our Sustainability Observatory made headlines this month with new data revealing the impact of lockdown on the environment. The team painstakingly gathered data and carried out a comprehensive analysis across several indicators, including greenhouse gas levels and consumption of water and energy. The study revealed that harmful CO2 emissions had dropped by up to 98% due to the decrease in air, maritime and road traffic. The story was picked up by numerous news outlets; the full analysis is available in Spanish via our website.
“The Future of our Islands”
This month also saw the launch of our new online series, “The Future of our Islands”. In these weekly Facebook Lives, Director Sandra Benbeniste interviews local business and civil society leaders about the importance of the environment in a post-Covid19 reality, and what steps can be taken to ensure that sustainability remains at the heart of the so-called “new normal”. The series is a joint initiative with the Marine Forum of Ibiza & Formentera and so far has featured Marcos Marí, Vice President of Insotel/Trasmapi, plus the CEO and founder of OD Hotels, Marc Rahola. Tune in next Thursday at 11am via our Facebook page to hear from President of Spainmedia and Forbes Spain Editor, Andrés Rodríguez!

In memoriam – Ronnie Anderson
We were extremely saddened by the passing last month of our dear friend, Ronnie Anderson. Ronnie sat on the Advisory Council of IbizaPreservation for many years and inspired those around him with his passion for the island he made his home. A journalist and writer-turned farmer, Ronnie was instrumental in efforts to bring back the native Porc Negre (Black Pig) from the brink of extinction, and also introduced alpacas to Ibiza. His farm at Ca’n Pere Mussona ran highly successful educational projects for children and adults alike. He will be much missed.
