The musician completed the crossing in less than 5 hours, raising funds via a campaign on Instagram
IBIZA, 31-05-2022 – The musician Martín Ceballos, from the group Dvicio, has today swum the 17 kilometres between Ibiza and Formentera in order to promote the protection of the sea by raising funds for IbizaPreservation.
After eight months of training, Ceballos took on the challenge under the slogan “El Cruce del Martín”, taking to the water in Cala Saona in Formentera at around 08h30 this morning, arriving 4 hours and 53 minutes later at Ses Salines beach in Ibiza, with the technical support from Ibiza Blue Challenge.
“I feel great now that it’s over, and during the crossing I felt great, at least until kilometre 10,” said Ceballos on his arrival on the shores of Ibiza. He also reported that, just as he reached the coast, he found a plastic bag tangled in his foot, a fact that served to underline the importance of raising awareness about pollution in the sea. “The more we can raise awareness, the better,” he added.
A welcoming committee made up of IbizaPreservation’s executive team as well as Martín Ceballos’ family and friends – including his brother Andrés, the group’s vocalist – came to the beach to celebrate the musician’s achievement. “It is a source of pride that Martín has made such an effort to bring to the forefront the need to act for the environment in general and for the Mediterranean in particular, and we are very grateful that he thought of IbizaPreservation as the beneficiary of the funds raised,” said the director of the foundation, Inma Saranova.
Currently on a world tour, Ceballos has taken a short break to come to Ibiza to undertake this challenge. In addition to raising funds through his Instagram account, @dvicio_martin, he has managed to secure the commitment of companies such as Granini, Ocean Mind, Free2move and Brudy Cosmetics to make donations.
Dvicio resumes its tour in Barcelona on 3rd June before heading to the United States and Latin America.
